“Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:”-Ephesians 6:11-17
There are so many important lessons shared in the above verses, but two of them are regarding who we fight (wrestle) and “sword of the spirit”.
The first. Who is it that we fight? We “wrestle” not against our fellow human beings. People who God loves too! We fight against the “rulers of darkness”. In other words, we do not fight against the person who is behaving badly, perhaps really badly, but the power of darkness that rules their spirit and makes them act so badly. It may seem a small difference, but it is an important one!
The second: “The sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God”. There is nothing more powerful than the Truth and God’s Word is the Truth. We need to hold it in our hearts and remember that the “Battle is the Lord’s”. For with the Sword of the Spirit, we can face any challenge. We need not fear ?
